This contest tests a builder's ability to construct a robot which can follow a simple line course. The primary objective of the contest is speed, with a secondary objective of accuracy.
Track for Line Follower:
For Prelims :
In the arena for prelims, the radius of the circular path is 15cms and the gaps are of of 2cms. The path begins from the top left corner and ends in the bottom right corner according to the picture given below.

For Final Round :
In the arena for final round, the path begins from the top left corner and ends in the top right corner where an inclined plane with 45 degrees inclination and then a horizontal surrface where the line follower has to stop (top right corner according to the picture) is placed.

Team Specification :
A team may not consist of more than 4 members.
Robot Specifications
- The robots have no restrictions on size or power sources. The dc power supply (220V, 50 Hz) will be provided. But, the participants are requested to bring their own wires for moving the line follower within the track.
- In case of battery operated robots, we recommend the participants to use minimum number of batteries, as it will make their robot heavier, and thus slower.
- Lighting levels are unpredictable and the robot must be able to operate over a wide range of lighting conditions. No request to adjust the lighting shall be entertained.
- The robot should not be more than 20x20 cms.
Track Specifications
- The Basic Line Following track will be constructed using black tape on white reflecting enamel painted wooden plank.
- The racetrack shall comprise of straight lines and arcs within the confines of the board.
- The radius of the arc shall not be less than 15cm.
- There shall be gaps (of varying length like 2cm, 3cm) in the tape, so robot might leave line and have to find it again.
RULES
- Two attempts will be given to the teams in each round to place their robot back on the track, just in case it deviates.
- Should the robot lose the line and require human intervention to reacquire it, the robot must be placed at the most recent checkpoint. At no time is a robot allowed to skip a portion of the course.
- If suppose two team gets same points then the prize will be given according to the time taken.
- Line may contain break, break size will not be more than 5 cm.
- If a Line Follower leaves the black line, and has not crossed the finishing line, it will be considered to have gone off the track, and that run shall be invalid.
- Robot operators are allowed to replace an errant robot on track but will suffer a penalty for each replacement.
- As the course progresses the complexity of the line becomes more difficult and may include (but is not restricted to) the following distractions:
• Gentle rounded corners
• Sharp rounded corners
• Sharp obtuse angles (greater than 90 degrees)
• Sharp acute angles (less than 90 degrees) 8.
8.The Line Follower shall have a specified maximum number of attempts to run the track within a stipulated time limit (typically 3 to 5 minutes and from 3 to 4 attempts to be decided by the organizer on the day of the race).
9.Complaints about the grip on the track surface will not be entertained.
10.The tracks will be released before the event on the webiste.
ORAGANISER'S DECISION
- The organisers reserve the right to make changes to any of the above in the interest of fair play and sportsmanship, and to ensure that all competitors have an enjoyable competition.
- In the event of ambiguity, the organizers' interpretation of any clauses of the rules shall prevail.
